We have been hearing about this health craze and knew we had to try it! For the past seven days, we both have tried a strange new technique that attributes to healthy habits and detoxification, Oil Pulling. Its a practice that involves swishing a cold-pressed oil around your mouth first thing in the morning for about 20 minutes. Sounds weird? Just wait until you try it the first time.. talk about awkward. You want the oil to literally pull the toxins from your body before you’ve put anything else in your mouth.
Take a spoonful of coconut oil and place in your mouth and begin to swish it around. Studies say do it for 20 minutes, but I would start with 5-10 minutes and add more time as you are comfortable. You want to make sure to not swish the oil down your throat or you will put the toxins back into your system. After 5-20 minutes, spit out in the trash because oil hardens and can clog your drains.
Studies on this are broad and inconclusive at this point, but have shown to strengthen your teeth, whiten your teeth, and prevent cavities and detoxify your entire body. If your oil turns yellow, you just pulled out lots of toxins from your system and its working.
